Fort Stevenson State Park is among the most popular destinations in the North Dakota State Park system.  It is one of three state parks on Lake Sakakawea and is a favorite among outdoor recreation enthusiasts wanting to experience on of the nation's greatest fisheries.  The park gets its name from a 19th century frontier military fort, which is now under water.  It is located on Lake Sakakawea's north shore and receives great support from the nearby community of Garrison.

The park features two marinas - de Trobriand on the park's east side and Garrison Bay on the west.  The Garrison Bay marina is one of the few deep water marina's on Lake Sakakawea catering to the fluctuating levels of the large man-made lake providing access no matter how high or low the water.  FSSP offers reasonable slip rentals and also rents fish boats, paddle boats and a pontoon.  Nature lovers will marvel at the park's flora and fauna, and won't want to miss the arboretum containing over 50 plant species.

Several marjor crowd pleasing eents are held at the park each year including a kite flying festival, Governor's Cup Fishing Derby, Frontier Days and Beach Party.  FSSP is open year-round with full service camping available from mid-May to the end of September.
